Honor 4X - How to update to EMUI 3.1 Android Lollipop (European Model)

This update have been available a while but it wasn't readily available sadly to everyone in Europe. A reader on this blog from Europe was asking about their region specific update and somehow that part we didn't cover properly.



The main reason why these updates were missed by users is that Honor / Huawei opt not to push Over the air update since the internal storage of this phone are very limited. So after checking with Huawei support page, we got to know that there was an update build required as a version requirement before the final C432B310 update could be installed

For all reader, please check your current build and install the appropriate build as required.

If you are currently on C432B069 you need to install a required update in the C432B130 befor any update to EMUI 3.1 Lollipop

Please take note that upgrading to Lollipop would change the phone behavior since app would not stick in the SD card anymore. A full factory reset are advised whenever updating to any major update suck as Kitkat to Lollipop or Lollipop to Marshmallow. This is because some installation might not be able to clear previous system residue such as app data or cache that could lead to multiple niggling issue.

As usual, we will put the link here and also how to update your phone for those that are new and for those who are already familiar with Honor update system, this file should be not an issue for you. Again, as a reminder, always backup your phone.

How to Install

Update prerequisite
1.  Make sure all your app are moved to internal memory and would fit everything inside.
2. If somehow you cant fit all your app in internal memory, please do uninstall apps that use a lot of free space.
3. Make sure you have at least 1GB of free space in your internal memory after all your apps are moved.
4. backup your data either to SDCard or to Hisuite (Computer)

How to update
1. Download the Honor 4C or Honor 4X update file to a PC
2. Extract the update file in Your PC and copy out the update.app file
3. Plug in your device to the PC via USB cable
4. Create "dload" folder on your SD Card and copy the Update.app in to it. (using pc explorer)
4. Plug out the phone and Open EMUI updater --> Chose Local Update
5. Install and reboot your phone (you should be updated to Android 5.1 now with EMUI 3.1)

Your phone will be very sluggish for a while (few minutes to hours) because Android would need to reinstall all your apps again one by one. This installation would include all pre-installed system apps thus even if you don't have any apps installed it still be having the same issue.
