Kirin 650 - What we know so far

Huawei have officially launch the new Honor 5C smartphone today in China but the one that intrigue us the most isnt the phone but what is under the hood. In side the latest Honor 5C device and also the earlier Huawei P9 Lite is a new Kirin 650 that was build and launch under the radar without any official specification release by Huawei.

Honor 7 - How to replace stock recovery to enable OTA / Update

Honor 7 is one of the earliest model to be receiving Marshmallow update (EMUI 4.0) from any Huawei model including Huawei own flagship Mate S and P7. With the new Beta and impending update, users are required to replace back their recovery to the original Huawei recovery for the phone to be able to install EMUI 4.0 update.

Honor 7 - EMUI 4.0 update with marshmallow

Ok, we might be ahead of our self here because we are writing a post based on a BETA release of EMUI 4.0. The main reason for this post is that Honor 7 would start to receive the official EMUI 4.0 update in the first quarter of 2016 and we should be staying relevant and given justice to the phone. Early December, Honor 7 opened their BETA testing registration for Europe and we were lucky to be able to install to BETA version on our Honor 7 before our loan is up.

Honor 7 - The finger print sensor

Finger print sensor are everywhere in smartphones nowadays but does all fingerprint sensor are the same?. Huawei are not, Honor 7 have one of the most useful finger print sensor available in the current market and that seems to put them better than the rest. It is normal for manufacturer to market their finger print sensor as the fastest and so does Honor with their 0.5 second recognition. The speed are not everything and we could attest to that as what we found on Honor 7 is something that is unique and useful at the same time.

Honor 7 - European Beta EMUI 4.0 (PLK-L01C432B313)

Honor 7 was released just months ago preloaded with EMUI 3.1 Android 5.0 and since then updates was release but it is still on Android 5.0.2. It is just a matter of time before a new update was release for Honor 7 as most of the other models are already on Android 5.1.1. The next update was speculated as a straight jump to Marshmallow (Android 6.0) just by looking at the non available 5.1.1 update for it.

Honor 7 - How to enable mobile data limit settings

For those who own Honor 7, you might found it strange that you couldn't find any standard Android mobile data limit settings in the EMUI 3.1 interface. For some strange reason the setting was not available eventhough it is available as Android standard system. this post will help you how to enable Mobile data limit settings for your Honor 7 or any other EMUI 3.1 phone without this option.

Honor 7 - A great camera for still photo

One of Honor 7 biggest selling point is the use of sony's latest Exmor RS IMX230 sensor. The sensor brings technology such as 21MP, f/2.0 aperture, 1.1 micron 1/2.4 inch sensor, Phase Detect Auto-Focus (PDAF) but you would see some are missing in Honor such as 4K HD video recording and a slightly lower megapixel count. Because Honor 7 is a mid tier target market, we can see why Huawei opt to remove few feature to kept cost lower but for some its a big let down because the sensor are one of the best currently.

Honor 7 - Part 2: Kirin 935

Honor 7 uses the current highest available CPU from Huawei's own Hisilicon in the form of Kirin 935. This might be not the first phone to use Kirin 935 but its the first mass produced and sold to mass market. Kirin 935 was also the same one used in Huawei's flagship P8 Max and not the highly popular P8 where it is powered by Kirin 930. The difference between these two CPU is just on the overclocked big core that is slightly faster by 200MHz.

Honor 7 - Part 1 : The Design

Honor latest phone, the Honor 7 was launch in Malaysia on the 21st Sept but we were given a loan phone a few days earlier by Honor Malaysia for us to play around. Honor Malaysia were kind enough to load the unit to me for a three month period until December and here is my take on the phone after almost a week using it.

I will be writing the full Honor 7 experience in 7 part because there are so many to tell and it would not do justice if i only put it in a single post. this first post would focus on the phone outer shell and also the look and feel of the device.

Honor 7 vs Meizu MX5 - Hardware technical spec comparison

Its 30th June and both of these Chinese manufacturer are launching their flagship on the same day and that is not where the similarity ends because both of these phone would run on overclocked ARM A53 architecture in Kirin 930/935 and Mediatek Helio X10 (MT6795T). When other high end flagship is playing with fire in Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, these two manufacturer opt to play it save with an overclocked slower A53 processor rather than using the faster A57 used in Snapdragon 810. Both of these phone sporting a metal type body shell, heat will be a big issue if it is not dealt properly.

Because these are flagship smartphone, we will look at the comparison between the specification of these two phone and help you to decide which one is better. We will focus at the internal SoC and camera hardware offering as both usually will help in deciding a purchase.

Honor 7 - The latest flagship from Huawei

Honor 7, the latest flagship from Honor launched today with great hardware specification and as always with lower price point. Huawei Honor 7 - Launch date and what to expect from the new flagship

The next Honor flagship would be launch on the 8th of June as a replacement of the current Honor 6 that was launched almost a year ago. The teaser of the event was released last weekend, making everyone guessing until Huawei themself gave the biggest hint with the price decrease of current Honor 6 model on the official Vmall website. With earlier leaked photo of the reported Honor 7, we will take a look at what would the replacement brings to outdo the best selling Honor 6.

There are many harware detail speculation running around the rumour mills but one thing for certain that this flagship would be better than the current Honor 6. That itself is not easy to do because Honor 6's was the best phone money could buy for the price. When Honor 6 was released, it was equip with the best processor in Huawei's stable, 3GB RAM and also other flagship spec with the fraction of the price from other manufacturer.
