Windows 10 Mobile - New Facebook Universal app is available for update

A new update for Facebook app (Universal App) is now available for Windows Phone running the Insider Preview of Windows 10 Mobile. The latest release bring a visual update that is better and almost on par with Andorid / ios version but it bring new problems together. Version 10.1 is visually better than the currently available facebook app for windows 8.1 that applied similar location and overall design as Android version of Facebook app.

Stage fright Detector (lookout) - Check if your device is vulnerable

Lookout Security released a Stagefright vulnerability checker for android on the Playstore and its something that we advise all readers to install. The app would check your device for all known Stagefright vulnerability for your device. This may not be the solution to the Stagefright issue but it is good enough to learn that if your device is patched. The only way to be safe from Stagefright right now is for your device manufacturer to release an update for your current system but as a precaution, you can always disable auto download for MMS.

Facebook app for android is down for some users.

Facebook's android app is down for some users around the world. The Connectivity issue affected quite a number of users where a quick check shown it is down for some. It started almost after 2pm (GMT +8) in Malaysia and as of writing it is still reported down (3 hours). A check at http://downright now.com/Facebook show "Likely Service Disruption", the issue, most likely because of feeds syndication error is still not yet officially announced by facebook .

Windows Phone - Dropbox app is now official

Dropbox app are now official on Windows Phone with the latest Universal app release  that would be working on Windows 8.1. This is a result of partnership arangement done between Dropbox and Microsoft late last year. Previously Dropbox are available only as a desktop software and Microsoft manage to convince Dropbox to build a full fledge universal app as that could make a relevant move to Windows 8 for their users.

For those who are not familiar with Dropbox, the cloud storage company is currently one of the biggest cloud storage solution and would be the envy of other cloud storage solution such as Microsoft's own Skydrive / Onedrive. With the availability of Dropbox as a Universal apps, Microsoft would leverage on the Universal app usability in Windows 8 to drive more adopters.

Whatsapp web is available and 3rd party apps are banned

Whatsapp have launched the latest way of connecting to your contacts with the availability of Whatsapp web service. This new service extend the availability of Whatsapp to almost every known system available currently. "Today, for the first time, millions of you will have the ability to use WhatsApp on your web browser. Our web client is simply an extension of your phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device -- this means all of your messages still live on your phone." as posted on the Whatsapp Blog posting on 21st January.

In the same blog posting, Whatsapp also show how to use the new service and why apple IOS will not be able to use the web service on their iphone or ipad. "To connect your web browser to your WhatsApp client, simply open https://web.whatsapp.com in your Google Chrome browser. You will see a QR code --- scan the code inside of WhatsApp, and you’re ready to go. You have now paired WhatsApp on your phone with the WhatsApp web client. Your phone needs to stay connected to the internet for our web client to work, and please make sure to install the latest version of WhatsApp on your phone. Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to provide web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations."

Windows Phone app update - Extras+Info now show RAM (3.13.2.34)

Extras+Info on Windows Phone received new update that now show RAM capacity for phones. The app update also ask user to check or install the latest phone update in the overview tab. There might be additional items show or improve in the Denim update but we can't confirm anything yet as we yet to receive the latest update Denim Update.

There is also update on the "Firmware Update Notifier", "Lumia First User Experience" and "Rate Us" respectively in addition to the available RAM. Please take note, our Lumia 925 is running on Developer Preview and would have different build number from other non Developer Preview versions. You can check below screenshot for the build number differences.

Windows Phone App Update – Telegram Messenger Beta (v 1.1.3.56)

Seems like almost every other app in Windows Phone are getting updates every week and Telegram Messenger is joining them. Telegram Messenger Beta, is still in Beta (as the name suggested) has releases the latest update for their popular messaging app.

Telegram Messenger Beta for Windows Phone receive a major performance upgrade in the latest version (v 1.1.3.56) versus the earlier releases. The application now feel snappier and faster, mainly because of the new transition animations. There is also a new live tile icon that more resemble an arrow now then a paper plane.

Candy Crush Saga now available on Windows Phone

This would be a news to rejoice as Candy Crush Saga is now available for Windows Phone. No more fake "crush the candy" or "candy the crush" to download in the Windows Store and for people moving from Android or IOS, you can now synchronize your progress. The version 1.0.0 is now available for download from the Windows Store.

The game is as always free to download but with in app purchases available and features like some in-game items such as extra moves or lives will require payment.
You can control in-app purchases by enabling Wallet PIN. Wallet PIN can be found in your Windows Phone settings.

Microsoft Video updated - Now support MKV

Microsoft have started to update Xbox Video on windows 8.1 that now support Matroska Multimedia Container (MKV) natively. The latest version, would be able to support playback of most MKV video as long as Microsoft have the codec for it. This is a welcome update as user normally would need to download third party player in order to playback any MKV files.

We've tried to update our Windows 10 Video player but it is not supported yet and show us error while updating. The current Video player update would only be available for Windows 8.1 it seems. With the last announcement of supporting FLAC and now MKV, we can safely assumed which ever version available for Windows 10 would be able to play both media type out of the box.

Windows Phone App Update - Facebook official v 8.3.4.0

The official Facebook app for windows phone have been updated to version 8.3.4.0 in the windows store. This brings fixes and performance to the Facebook app but nothing bigger than the support for sticker in this version. Yes, windows phone Facebook app can now view stickers comments, something that other platform apps already does for a while now.

Xbox Music - Update for Windows Phone available ( 2.6.414.0 )

Microsoft just released a new update for Xbox music on windows 8.1 and Windows Phone. This new update enable back user to purchase individual songs, a feature that went missing since the last update last month. Joe Belfiore tweeted the update with a link to a change log site with news that the updates for Xbox music would be less frequent now. The reason given was that the team in Xbox music is working on new features that will be introduce in windows 10.

Xbox music would be updated on a monthly basis from now on but the feedback page is always open for user feedback. You can read the statement here.

Windows Phone App Update - Telegram Messenger Beta and Facebook Beta

Facebook and Telegram, 2 of the most popular apps in Windows Store has released new update today. Both of this apps are still consider as Beta and lacking feature versus their counterparts in iOS and Android.

Nokia Z Launcher (Beta) - Clean and simple interface for Android

Nokia recently launch the N1 Android tablet with spec and size to match the Ipad Mini Retina with their own Android interpretation.

Nokia own launcher, the Z launcher was the centre piece of the launch of N1 where Nokia demonstrate the Z launcher as "Easy as ABC" with the Letter Scribble System.

We download the launcher from the Nokia website and give it a go on our Honor 6 hardware with 3GB ram as normally launcher would use a lot of RAM and we are supposed to be ready for it with this device.

HTC Eye Experience Available for HTC One M8 in Malaysia

Yesterday, HTC Malaysia through its Facebook page announce the availability of Eye Experience for all HTC One (M8) to download in Malaysia.

As of now it is still only available for the latest HTC One (M8) and there is no update of the software coming to HTC One (M7) yet.

Eye Experience is the latest Camera Software update available that can enable new features such as SplitCapture, Facetracking, LiveMakeup, FaceFusion and more.

Whatsapp for windows phone - update ver. 2.11.596 ( *update 2.11.596.0 released on 6th November )

* Update (6th November) : The build number for whatsapp pushed to 2.11.596 with minimal information in the change log other than enhancement and bug fixes. Most notable change is the colour for messages that has been read will change to blue.



After a while of beta testing, new update of whatsapp is now available thru Windows Store. The version build now is 2.11.586 which support many feature that already available in other version for IOS and Android.

OneDrive for Windows Phone - Updated to 4.4

Onedrive or Skydrive as it formerly known as is microsoft take on cloud storage. It maybe not as popular as other cloud storage offering but still have its follower and the follower base is growing since the introduction of Microsoft Office for IOS.

Windows phone on the other hand use onedrive or skydrive as the default cloud storage since version 7.0 and now version 8.1

"Kill my Time" app Vainglory

I just found this game accidently while looking around Appstore on my Ipad mini and somehow i'm hooked.
I cant stop playing it and its kind of annoying because the gameplay is so simple (normally i dont like simple games). I even introduced it to my friend and seriously it is really "addictive".

The ultimate goal of the game is to destroy the opponent's giant crystal on the other end of the map and that is really it.
