Dear Mi fans,
We have been committed to continue our sales of Redmi Note and Redmi 1S devices in India. In the last 2 days alone, we received about 150,000 registrations for Redmi Note on Flipkart and the momentum has been terrific.
However, we have been forced to suspend sales in India until further notice due to an order passed by the Delhi High Court. As a law abiding company, we are investigating the matter carefully and assessing our legal options.
Our sincere apologies to all Indian Mi fans! Please rest assured that we're doing all we can to revert the situation. We have greatly enjoyed our journey with you in India over the last 5 months and we firmly intend to continue it!

Report coming out from india alleged that Xiaomi, the chinese smartphone manufacturer is now banned from India 's market. This is related to an injunction requested by Ericsson on their patent infringement in India's High Court. Erricsson as other early GSM manufacturer holds multiple patent that almost every new phone would use and they would be paid in royalties.
Last month, news outlet around the world reported that companies like Ericsson, Nokia and other big patent holder are coming after Chinese phone manufacturer. This sudden interest by patent holder is because the expansion done by many Chinese manufacturer into other significant market like Europe, America and India. Most of Chinese new phone manufacturer doesn't hold any patent or pay any royalty to the patent's owner while they were doing business in China and China's patent law are not known for enforcing intellectual property rights properly.
This mark a significant turn in Xiaomi plans in India as Xiaomi was making big stride with their planned expansion and Xiaomi's own India manufacturing company that would be created in India. The Injunction said to be related to infringement of Ericsson's SEP (Standard Essential Patents) which Xiaomi are not allowed to sell, import and market their phones in question. This also said to apply to Flipkart that sold Xiaomi phones through their online store.
Xiaomi India Head, Manu Jain emailed their response to NDTV after the news broke out by SpicyIP ;
While we haven't received an official notice from the Delhi High Court, our legal team is currently evaluating the situation based on the information we have.
India is a very important market for Xiaomi and we will respond promptly as needed and in full compliance with Indian laws. Moreover, we are open to working with Ericsson to resolve this matter amicably.
This is not the first time Ericsson enforced their pattern to other manufacturer and their track record have shown that they are winning their arguments, such like in the previous case with Samsung in 2012 and Micromax last year.
This might start a trend later on this year and the year forward when many of the GSM patent holder would start to enforced their rights now because of the rapid expansion of new Chinese manufacturer into other markets.
