Honor 6 - Official EMUI 3.1 Lollipop update (India)

Update : This Official EMUI 3.1 Disabled 4G option as 4G is very very limited in India
After Honor 4C (the smaller screen sibling of 4X) has been given an official update to Lollipop from Honor India, now it's Honor 6 turn to get an official update. The update came in the form of a manual update and not OTA just as like the earlier Honor 4c. This came as a big surprise to us as we have an OTA beta EMUI 3.1 update earlier for Malaysia.

We were informed by our reader ErikStill that this update would disable 4G option on your phone, please be advised. That might be a big reason why India update were release as a non OTA because of the data connectivity are not optimum for it. Thanks to ErikStill for the information!

We also found out that the update build number is lower than what is available in Malaysia as Beta (B510 for India official and B511 for Malaysia Beta). We haven't really looked at the file itself but because of the lower build number a revert to EMUI 3.0 might be required for those who installed Malaysia Beta update. Downgrading would erase all data!!!

There is no explanation given by Honor on why the file isn't given as OTA but we might be able to assume it is that way to encourage user to do a factory reset prior update to ease the transition between KitKat and Lollipop.

For those who are currently on the Beta update, you guys need to downgrade to EMUI 3.0 using this tool here and follow the steps below.

1. Download the Honor 6 downgrade file to a PC

2. Extract the downgrade file (H60-L04C900B500 Downgrade Package.zip) in Your PC and copy out the update.app file

3. Plug in your device to the PC via USB cable

4. Create "dload" folder on your SD Card and copy the Update.app in to it. (using pc explorer)

4. Plug out the phone and Open EMUI updater --> Chose Local Update

5. Install and reboot your phone (you should be downgrade from Android 5.1 (BETA) to EMUI 3.0 B380)

For those who would like to update their Honor 6 to the latest official Lollipop EMUI 3.1 version, you can do so by downloading the update file from here and follow the steps below.

1. Download the Honor 6 update file to a PC

2. Extract the update file (Hono-6-Android-5.1.zip) in Your PC and copy out the update.app file

3. Plug in your device to the PC via USB cable

4. Create "dload" folder on your SD Card and copy the Update.app in to it. (using pc explorer)

4. Plug out the phone and Open EMUI updater --> Chose Local Update

5. Install and reboot your phone (you should be updated to Android 5.1 now with EMUI 3.1)

As a precaution, Honor advises to always clear cache before and after update by doing the method below

1. turn of your phone

2. Press Power and Volume up together

3. use volume up/down button to select "wipe cache partition"

4. select by using power button.

5. select "reboot system now"
