Moto G (first gen) - Motorola Update Services app Updated

Pic by: Motorola

Motorola phones are know to get updates very early and they didn't dissapoint their user again with the Lollipop update available for the Moto X and Moto G second generation. They still cannot pleased everyone, specially owners of the earlier generation of Moto X and Moto G that have not yet get any update for lollipop. As a recap, the first generation Moto G and Moto X was one of the earliest to be updated with KitKat last year and that bring high expectation for motorola to again deliver update quickly.

Yesterday, Motorola Update Services was updated for Moto G first generation and that clearly is a big sign that Lollipop update is very near. As of writing, there is no official announcement coming from Motorola on the exact date for Lollipop but the Motorola Update Services is a very big hint.

The change log for the 1st Dec update is as below
  • This is an update to the over-the-air (OTA) installer that downloads system updates.
  • This update is necessary to enable a future upgrade of your device to Android 5.0, Lollipop. It updates the installer on:
  • Moto G (1st Gen.)
  • All users with these devices should accept this update.
  • Please see Motorola's software upgrade page to check on the latest for your device

There is no indication if this update would be Lollipop 5.0 or the latest available version of Lollipop 5.0.1. This update would be a welcome addition to all owner of Moto G and would still make Motorola as one of the best phone manufacturer in delivering updates. Even with the change of ownership from Google to Lenovo, owners of Moto G, Moto E and Moto X would still be able to have updates that other manufacturer would take ages to release.

We've done a quick check on the Motorola software upgrade page for our Malaysia market Moto G XT1033  (first generation) and this is what we see.

MOTO G
This device will be upgraded to the Android 5 Lollipop release of Android, pending partner support.

We will continue to check for any available update and keep you all posted when any update arrive. All we can hope is that Motorola still continue with this trend and their "Pure Experience" with Android.
